On Teej, Gurgaon ladies go cham-cham, chham-chham

Teej celebrations

Teej is considered an important festival for women, both married and maiden, since they pray for marital bliss. But in Gurgaon, when a group of women decided to let their down on Teej, they didn't mind that their HABS (husbands and boyfriends) weren't around. Dressed in green, members of the ladies' club Aadita and other guests celebrated Teej at a Sohna Road hotel in style.

I Like To Move It

At this do held on Tuesday afternoon, about 175 women, mostly from Gurgaon, chose green-coloured attire for the pre-Teej party. After the pleasantries, which were loaded with compliments for each other's outfit, make-up, and jewellery, were exchanged, the party began with dance games. There were impromptu and choreographed dance sessions. Vibha Saboo, one of the hosts of the do, said, "I made videos of my dance and shared it with other members on WhatsApp so they could learn the steps. We all met a day before the event to rehearse, but as one would have noticed, it still was a mess!"

Dressing up

While it looked like the women spent hours getting ready, given their elaborate outfits and flawless make-up, everyone told us that they "merely did some touch-up and came for the party." Most of them chose to wear ethnic wear, but a few, like Anu Yadav, preferred to wear a western outift. "I feel comfortable in western wear. Frankly, I think I look sexy in it. Moreover, Gurgaon has a cosmopolitan culture where everyone is welcome to show their oomph factor," she said.

Archana Sachdev came from Hauz Khas to attend the party. She told us about the significance of the colour green, which represents fertility. When asked if she was there to make everyone else feel green with her dress and meticulously done nail paint, she said, "I don't think so. Everyone is looking so graceful." When asked if she was being modest, she said, "Sahi pakde hain," mimicking the popular TV soap character Bhabhiji.
