India men’s hockey team settled for a 2-2 draw in their final Group B match at Rio 2016 Olympics on Friday. Canada came back from behind to earn a draw, their first in the competition. Before this, they had lost all their group matches, comprehensively. It was an exciting contest which saw two goals scored in less than five minutes, then a goal which put India ahead and finally the equaliser from Canada skipper Tupper.
India have played some quality hockey in the previous four games and have won two and lost the remaining. Both the losses were very close ones and a draw was always in India’s pocket. In the first loss against Germany, India conceded a goal in the last five seconds and lost the game 2-1.
In the second loss, to Netherlands, India were trailing 2-1 but got five penalty corners in the dying moments of the match. They failed to convert them and ended up being the second best team.
