Adrenalin junkie Andy Murray ensures Wimbledon crowd pushes him over the line

There was a moment in this quarter-final that gave a clue to Andy Murray’s indomitable fighting spirit. In Jo-Wilfried Tsonga he had encountered the toughest, most uncompromising of opponents, an obstacle blocking the Wimbledon path with shoulders the width of a wardrobe.

Things were not going to plan. Not least Murray’s plan to finish off in time to watch the Wales game on television. Even his best shots were being returned with aplomb by the Frenchman.
This was far too close for comfort: the pair’s epic first-set tie-break alone seemed to go on as long as some of Serena Williams’s early round matches.
